Campaign and Confidentiality Terms

Thank you for supporting Blood Cancer United and committing to participate in the Student Visionaries of the Year (SVOY) campaign. We sincerely appreciate your support of Blood Cancer United. As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Student Visionaries is both a local and national fundraising competition. Therefore, the following guidelines have been created to ensure successful and fair competition for all candidate teams. The CACT must be signed before any funds can be received.

Communication

Parents or guardians must be included in all communication between minors and Blood Cancer United staff (emails, text messages, etc). If a parent/guardian is not included in a message, it will be redirected to an appropriate channel where an adult in involved. Parents may NOT opt out of any texts with their Blood Cancer United staff member, but CAN opt out of national texts and communications.

Eligibility and Conduct

Blood Cancer United reserves the right to allow the participation of more than one team per school. Candidates cannot be the children of Blood Cancer United employees, and all volunteers must conduct themselves in a way that aligns with Blood Cancer United's standards and policies.

Fund Acceptance

No funds can be accepted until 12:01 a.m. on the day of Kickoff. Any funds received prior to this date will not count towards a team's total. Donations can be promised before Kickoff, but money can only be accepted early for sponsorships. Click HERE for the approved ways to accept funds.

Confidentiality

Donor details are confidential, unless recognition has been requested or promised by Blood Cancer United. Candidate totals are kept confidential from other teams until all totals have been announced at Grand Finale.

Meetings

At least one parent or guardian must be present at ALL meetings between students and Blood Cancer United staff. If an adult is unable to attend, the meeting MUST be rescheduled to a time when an adult can attend.

Fund Restriction

Overall funds raised by volunteers over the seven-week campaign may not be restricted to a specific Blood Cancer United program or mission initiative.

Third-Party Events

Blood Cancer United staff CANNOT assist you in the planning and execution of any third-party events. Expenses will not be reimbursed by Blood Cancer United and may not be more than 25% of the revenue raised. You may not use Blood Cancer United's federal tax ID number to secure any in-kind donations for your event, such as a venue or catering. All event promotion must abide by Blood Cancer United's branding and marketing guidelines. Any events must align with Blood Cancer United's brand and reputation and may not be anything that could put our tax-exempt status in jeopardy.

Sponsorships

Sponsorship commitment forms can be collected at any time prior to fundraising and throughout the campaign. Funds may be accepted starting on July 1st. Staff will handle collecting the payment.

In-Kind Credit

Credit for in-kind donations will be awarded on a "first come, first serve" basis. If a team secures a donation of a specified service or product, the budgeted value of that donation will be added to the team's total. In-kind credit will only be given for specific items listed by Blood Cancer United.

Auction and Charitybuzz

Teams will be credited for the amounts that their auction items sell for -- NOT the fair market value of the items. Each team is limited to 3 silent auction items but may have unlimited Charitybuzz items. Firearms and live animals are not permitted. Charitybuzz donors are responsible for fulfillment and delivery of their items.

Scholarships

If you earn a scholarship through the campaign, Blood Cancer United will provide it directly to the institution of your choice or an established 529 plan. If those options are unavailable, your parent/guardian must submit a signed form indicating proof of intent that the scholarship will be used for educational purposes. Candidates must raise at least $10,000 to be eligible for a scholarship.

Signing the CACT

Candidates may NOT begin fundraising until they have signed their CACT.

Be on the lookout for an email from the Blood Cancer United Office of Volunteer Engagement. Check your spam or junk folder if you don't see it.
Follow the prompts in the email to activate your account. Choose your username and password.
After you have logged in, follow and complete ALL 5 steps to become an active volunteer. Make sure each step is checked off!
