Matching Gifts
Matching Gifts are some of the most valuable (and easiest) funds to raise! Many large corporations will partially or entirely match any charitable donations made by employees -- some companies will even DOUBLE or TRIPLE match what their employees give!

If a company offers a 1:1 match, this will DOUBLE the amount that the employee donated. For example, if an employee at Home Depot donates $500 to your campaign, Home Depot will also give $500, turning this into a $1,000 donation!
Obtaining a Matching Gift
1 / Do Your Research
Blood Cancer offers a quick and handy tool for searching if a company offers matching gifts (see link below). Some companies may have restrictions on what type of organizations they can match donations to (ex: Delta only matches gifts to educational nonprofits), so make sure that you're aware of what companies to look out for!
2 / Inform Your Donors
Emails and letters are the easiest way to make sure EVERY donor knows that matching gifts are available! Include a line at the end such as "P.S., does your company do matching gifts? I'd love to talk about how we can make your donation go even further!"
3 / Follow Up
When a donor receives their donation receipt, there will be instructions on how to submit a match request with their employer. You will receive a list of your donors eligible for matching gifts with your Friday reports. Blood Cancer United staff will also be following up with donors regularly to inform them of the matching gift opportunities and to help them submit requests.
