Letters and Emails

2024 CAMPAIGN REVENUE STREAMS

This graphic shows just how important letters and emails are...making up OVER HALF of all campaign fundraising nationally in 2024. Product Sales (selling t-shirts, bake sales, etc) and events bring in less than 1%.

Candidate Letters

Blood Cancer United will send 500 letters to be split between co-candidates. Candidates should only include their PERSONAL contacts in their contact tracker - using contacts from team members can make writing the letter more difficult, and team members are able to send their own individual letters.  Donations provided by these letters may only be awarded to the team and not an individual candidate. We have supplied many templates to download to inspire you or help you get started. Feel free to mix and match parts of letters to make it your own!

We encourage you to include a photo of yourself or the person/reason that inspires you to participate.

Candidate Letters and Contact Trackers are due to Blood Cancer United Staff by December 1st, 2025 at 5 PM.

Candidate Emails

Sending your weekly email is a HIGHLY important part of your campaign (One email a week for 7 weeks).

The contacts who received letters should also be included in your weekly email list. Think of it as your "weekly newsletter."

Team Member Letters

Team Members can send personalized letters to their friends and family as well! Click below to find some example letters. Team Member letters and contact trackers are due on December 5th, 2025 at 5 PM.

We encourage you to include a photo of yourself or the person/reason that inspires you to participate.

BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR PERSONAL FUNDRAISING PAGE LINK SO YOU RECEIVE CREDIT FOR YOUR DONATIONS. If you include the team link, you will not receive individual credit for your donations.

Team Member Emails

Team members should also be sending a weekly email (one email a week for 7 weeks). Think of it as your "weekly newsletter."

Thank You Examples

Once you receive a donation, be sure you are sending a thank you letter or email. This is a great opportunity to remind the donor about matching gifts! See example below!

When it comes to thank-you notes: it is NOT about you, and it is ALL about them. With fundraising, the donor needs to feel like they are the one that is curing cancer, treating patients, etc. The more you can use the word “you” to show them the impact that they are having and make that impact tangible for them, the better. This flips the gift from a gift of loyalty, to a gift of passion – which leads to repeat giving and giving at higher levels.

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is February 4th, 2026. Click below to see examples that candidates, team members, and parents can use to honor the day and increase donations.
